Police are investigating after two women were allegedly stabbed in separate incidents within approximately 24 hours in Frankston, Victoria, leading to the arrest of a 27-year-old man.
According to police, the first incident occurred on August 16 at about 1:15 p.m. on Young Street. A 53-year-old woman from Skye was allegedly struck from behind with a sharp implement while walking along the street. She sustained injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment, with her injuries reported to be non-life-threatening. The alleged attacker fled the area following the incident
The second incident reportedly occurred the following morning, August 17, at approximately 7:45 a.m. on Playne Street. Police allege that a 29-year-old woman from Western Australia was approached from behind and stabbed before the offender demanded her bag and phone.
The woman was also taken to hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening. Police are investigating whether the two attacks were connected and whether the same person was responsible for both incidents.
Following the second alleged stabbing, officers arrested a 27-year-old man of no fixed address a short time later on Ross Smith Avenue East. He remains in police custody as detectives continue their investigation and prepare to interview him.
